This festival is Mito’s summer feature which is held by the shops at the central part of Mito City on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the first week in August.
The name comes from ‘Mito Komon’(real name is Tokugawa Mitsukuni who was the second lord of Mito Domain lived in Mito)
On the first day of the festival, more than 4,500 fireworks are shot from the lakeside of Senba Lake to set the mood for the festival.
On the big streets of Mito City are crowded with federal procession, floats with flowers and dolls and portable shrines.
On the second day of Mito Komon Festival, there are two dancing contests called ’Mito Civic Carnival in Mito. ‘Mito Komon Parade’
Last year, 45 teams joined the contests and competed in dancing with their original choreography.
Along Route 50 which is called ‘Komon-san Street’, many food stalls allure many people to their good smelled foods.
Many other events are scheduled in the festival.
